Annely Peebo is internationally acclaimed opera, oratorio and concert soloist. Since 1997 she works at the Vienna Volksoper as a soloist and in the same year debuted also at the Vienna State Opera.
Annely Peebo studied piano at the Viljandi Music School and choral conducting in Tallinn Music High School. She graduated from the Vienna University of Music and Dramatic Arts under Professor Gerhard Kahry where she took classes of solo, lied and opera singing.
Annely Peebo has worked with many opera houses, including Teatro La Scala (Milan), Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Teatro San Carlo (Naples), Teatro Carlo Felice (Genoa), Teatro Regio (Torino), the Finnish National Opera, Theatre “Estonia”, NCPA in Beijing and many others.
Annely has performed in many prestigious concert houses like Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Philharmonic Hall in Berlin, Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Wiener Konzerthaus, Wiener Musikverein, Munich Philharmonic Hall, Tokyo Philharmonic Hall, Hyogo PPAC in Osaka and others. In addition she has participated in many music festivals, including Salzburg and Bregenz.
Annely Peebo has a wide repertoire and has sung many of the most important roles as a mezzo-soprano, like Carmen (Bizet “Carmen”), which he has been charming venues in Beijing, Tokyo, Vienna, etc; Silva (Kalman “Die Csardasfurstin”), Kundri (R.Wagner “Parsifal”), Fricka (R.Wagner “Das Rheingold”), Romeo (N.Bellini “I Capuleti e I Montecci”), Composer (R.Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos”), Angelina (G.Rossini “Cinderella”), Rosina (G.Rossini “Barber of Seville”), Hermia (B.Britten “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”), Cherubino (W.A.Mozart “Marriage of Figaro”), Donna Elvira (“Don Giovanni”), Dorabella (“Cosi fan tutte”), Idamante (“Idomeneo”), Hans (Humperdinck “Hänsel und Gretel”), Sextus (Mozart “La clemenza di Tito”), Orlofsky (J.Strauss “Die Fledermaus”), Octavian (R. Strauss “Der Rosenkavalier”), Medoro (Händel “Orlando”), Niklas (Offenbach “Le Contes D’Hoffmann”), Boccaccio (Suppe “Boccaccio”) and others.
Annely is also a sought-after soloist for other classical repertoire. In her repertoire we can find Verdi’s “Requiem”, Dvorak’s “Requiem”, “Stabat Mater”, Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” and 9th symphony, Mahler`s 2nd, 3rd and 8th symphony, “Das Klagende Lied”, “Des Knaben Wunderhorn”, “Rückert-Lieder”, “Kindertotenlieder”, “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen”, Wagner`s “Wesendonck songs”, Elgar’s “Sea Pictures”, “Jerusalem”, Rossini’s “Stabat Mater”, Schoenberg`s “Gurrelieder”, Brahms “Alt Rhapsdie”, Berlioz’ “Les Nuits d’été”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, “Mass in C Minor”, J. S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, “St. Matthew Passion”, “St. John Passion”, Händel’s “Messiah” and “Dixit Dominus”, Bruckner`s “Mass in F minor”, etc. She has also recorded numerous cantatas and other music.
She has been working with many distinguished conductors such as Georges Pretre, Fruhbeck de Burgos, Sir Neville Marriner, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Ton Koopman, Russell Davies, Fabio Luisi, Ulf Schirmer, Christopher Hogwood, Stefan Soltesz, Ion Marin, Manfred Honeck, B. De Billy, Ottavio Danton, Paavo Jarvi, Neeme Järvi, Eri Klas, Kaljuste, Placido Domingo, Thomas Hengelbrock, Michael Gielen, G. Korsten, P. Inkinen, C. Arming, A. Fisch and others.
The versatile artist has worked with numerous well-known directors such as Franco Zeffirelli (“La Traviata”), Giorgio Strehler (“Così fan tutte”), Robert Carsen (“Orlando”), Dario Fo (“Journey to Reims”), Philippe Arlaud (“Così fan tutte “) and others. She has sung with Placido Domingo, Renato Brusoni, Stefania Bonfadelli, Juan Diego Florez, Grace Bumbry, and other renowned artists.
In autumn 2003 Annely Peebo sung Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the pontificate of John Paul II at the Vatican. She was the leading lady in an award-winning international music film (Les Leçons de Ténèbres) in a co-production with France 3 and Arte. In 2002 she represented her home country Estonia in front of a multi-billion audience by hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn. Likewise in Tallinn she performed with Andrea Bocelli at an open-air concert in summer of 2003 and in 2013 she performed with Jose Carreras at Tallinn Star Weekend.
Newspapers in Salzburg praised the appearance of the Estonian mezzo-soprano Annely Peebo in the “Grosses Festspielhaus” in Salzburg in Dvorak’s Stabat mater: “A marvellously velvety timbre matched with the face of a Madonna and “A technically superb voice.”
Annely Peebo performs always in Estonia, if the schedule allows. Besides opera and concert performances she has also worked and performed in crossover projects. She has been invited several times to perform in exclusive events.
